Road Map

In the next release of appleseed, alpha-15, we will implement two fundamental features still missing to this day: pixel filtering and texture mip mapping. We will also fill some gaps in appleseed.studio such as the ability to edit the frame parameters such as resolution, color space, tile size, etc. We are planning to release alpha-15 around November 2012.

Following our tradition of issuing a maintenance release shortly after a major feature release, alpha-16 will be an all around improvement, bug fix and minor feature release. It will likely be the last release of the alpha program. If everything goes well, alpha-16 should see the light of day near the end of 2012.

We will try to keep the beta program short, with maybe one or two releases only. The first stable version of appleseed 1.1.0 should be released around March 2013.

The plan after 1.1.0 is still fuzzy, but very high on our list of features are fully programmable shading via OSL and render-time, crack-free and artifact-free displacement.

At some point after 1.1.0 we will also add support for the RIB and ASS (Arnold Scene Source) file formats.
