Feature Preview: Normal Mapping

appleseed now supports normal mapping.

Here is a quick animation rendered with the upcoming appleseed 1.1.0 alpha-13 to illustrate the effect of normal mapping (together with image-based lighting and camera motion blur) on the Killeroo model:

appleseed Package for Arch Linux

User N30N has created an appleseed package for Arch Linux. This should considerably simplify deployment and compilation of appleseed on this platform.

Mayaseed 0.1.5 Released

Jon just released Mayaseed 0.1.5, his awesome Maya-to-appleseed translator! The major feature of this release is the ability to bake Maya shading networks to textures for rendering with appleseed.

appleseed 1.1.0 alpha-12 Released [Updated]

We just released appleseed 1.1.0 alpha-12. The two highlights of this major release are support for ray traced ("3D") deformation motion blur and full support for the 64-bit Windows platform.

Important: deformation motion blur is not exposed in appleseed.studio yet. We will post a tutorial explaining how to use it shortly, so stay tuned.

Update (April 23rd, 2012 - 10:38pm GMT+1): the 64-bit Windows archive was broken. We re-uploaded it and everything should be fine now.
